That box full of fry goodness is from a little food cart called Potato Champion in Portland, OR. What's on top of those awesome fried potatoes? It's cheese curd and gravy. That combination, a culinary superstar from Quebec, Canada, is known as poutine. And, in Portland, you can get it vegan or vegetarian style. Looks like this little lady is either going to have to start protesting for food-cart-friendly laws or plan a trip to the Pacific northwest. Which path should I take?

This is perfect - BenJones & I are going to Portland at the end of the month!
Oh, I am incredibly jealous! There's a ton of awesome food carts in Portland - here's more info: http://www.foodcartsportland.com/
The vibe in Portland cannot be beat - I fell in love with the city when I visited last year. If you go, you MUST stay at the Ace Hotel! I blogged about some of my favorite Portland haunts: http://katenyland.blogspot.com/2009/11/city-guide-portland-oregon.html I'm so sad I missed the vegetarian poutine though - I guess I'll just need to go back!
Kate, you have fueled this fire. I am currently trying to get my husband to block out some days in late-summer/early-fall to commit to PDX. Your guide just makes me more excited - thanks!
I just moved to Indianapolis from Portland with my boyfriend and both of us are avid foodies who loved drunkenly stumbling on taco stands and crepe trucks and coffee carts on our way home at two am. There is now an almost unlimited number of carts peppering the city of Portland where as five years ago you mostly had to go downtown near the bus mall or by Portland State to find a good variety. I'm really curious to find out what options are in this city as far as street food, locally owned diners, and especially coffee houses. Are there any coffee houses? Do I need to start my own because Starbuck's is NOT coffee and that's all I've seen so far!
Help, I'm homesick and can't seem to find any of the things I loved about Portland here!
